Child safety at Coastal Dance
At Coastal Dance, the safety and wellbeing of every child in our care is our highest priority. This page outlines our commitment to child safety, our policies, and how you can raise a concern.
Coastal Dance is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all children. We comply with the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Queensland) and have implemented all 10 Child Safe Standards as required by the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC).
All staff and volunteers hold a current Blue Card. Child safety is embedded in everything we do — from how we run classes to how we communicate with families.
Our policies and practices are built around Queensland’s 10 Child Safe Standards:
Standard 1
Child safety is embedded in leadership and governance
Standard 2
Children and young people are empowered
Standard 3
Families and communities are informed and involved
Standard 4
Equity is upheld and diverse needs are met
Standard 5
People working with children are suitable and supported
Standard 6
Processes to respond to complaints are child-focused
Standard 7
Staff are equipped with knowledge and training
Standard 8
Physical and online environments are safe
Standard 9
Implementation is regularly reviewed and improved
Standard 10
Policies and procedures document how we keep children safe
- Children must change in an enclosed space that provides full privacy, such as a lockable bathroom or a studio with the door closed. No adult is to enter while a child is changing. Children must notify a teacher or supervisor before changing.
- All physical contact between teachers and students is appropriate, necessary, and age-appropriate. Children can decline any physical correction.
- Photography and video recording of children requires prior written consent from a parent or guardian.
- No adult should be alone with a child in a closed room without another adult present or visible supervision.
- Online communication with students is conducted through official studio channels only, with parents copied in.
We encourage children, families, and staff to raise any concern about child safety — no matter how small it may seem. All complaints are taken seriously, handled confidentially, and responded to promptly.
You can speak directly with our Child Safety Officer, submit a written complaint, or use our complaint form. Printed copies are also available at the studio front desk.
