MEET OUR PRINCIPAL
From her first dance steps at age three, Kate’s passion for dance has been unwavering. After a brief pause due to a time clash with Bananas in Pyjamas, she resumed at age five and has never looked back. Trained by Conny Mathot and later at the Ransley Ballet and Dance Centre, Kate honed her skills with esteemed teachers like Meghan Cooper, Phillip and Rowena Chatfield, and Sue-Ellen Chesters.
At 14, Kate dedicated herself to full-time training, excelling in all her RAD exams. Her journey took her to New York for the prestigious Ailey School summer program, and she frequently traveled to the US for further training. Moving to London, Kate was represented by the Mark Summers Agency and performed with the Kinisi Dance Company, engaging in numerous shows and commercial projects.
In 2012, Kate returned to the Gold Coast and took over Coastal Dance, where her exceptional teaching earned her the Teacher of the Year award for Tapatak Oz. Kate has been a registered teacher with the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet and is currently preparing for her ComDance Teachers exam. Kate has mentored students to remarkable achievements, including the highest ComDance Grade 6 ballet score in the state. Her students have gone on to professional work and full-time dance studios, a testament to her expertise and dedication.
Student Successes
Our dancers have taken their training around the world, performing professionally across Australia and internationally. Coastal Dance alumni have worked with iconic productions and companies including Moulin Rouge, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Disney Resorts and Cruise Lines, Okada Casino, and in major productions such as Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, reflecting the strong foundations and professionalism developed through their training with us.
